Dr. Geeslin was invited to present on “What’s New with the Corners”, specifically focusing on restoring the anatomy of the Posterolateral Corner (PLC) of the knee following injury.

Research Grant

May 4, 2023. New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Geeslin was awarded a $23,000 research grant for the study of the Anterolateral Complex of the knee. This region may be injured in the setting of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears and in patients at elevated risk for ACL reconstruction failure, a procedure at the anterolateral knee (Lateral Extra-articular Tenodesis or Anterolateral Ligament Reconstruction) has been shown to reduce ACL graft injury rate.

Dr. Geeslin served as faculty at the recent AAOS Advanced Knee Course. He moderated a session on ACL reconstruction, gave a lecture on knee arthroscopy techniques, was a panelist on case discussions, and worked as an instructor in the lab.

Dr. Geeslin joins University of Vermont

Dr. Geeslin has joined the sports medicine division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. He will start treating patients at the University of Vermont in July, 2021. Dr. Geeslin will also work with the biomechanics research team under the direction of Dr. Bruce Beynnon. He will join the UVM athletics medical staff to care for the student-athletes, including the D-I Men’s Ice Hockey team.

Dr. Geeslin has concluded his practice in Kalamazoo, MI, and arranged for his partners to provide further care for his patients if necessary. He is grateful for the opportunity to treat patients in Kalamazoo at Ascension Borgess and for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program at WMED.

Dr. Geeslin to Instruct at AOSSM Hip Arthroscopy Course

(Course postponed due to COVID-19)

Dr. Geeslin is fellowship trained in hip arthroscopy including the treatment of adolescent and adult hip pathology. Along with leading hip arthroscopists, Dr. Geeslin has been selected as a lab instructor for the upcoming AOSSM surgical skills course to be held at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Rosemont, IL.

Ski Injury Course

Jen Squires PA-C and Dr. Andrew Geeslin led a course on skiing injuries for the WMED Family Medicine Residency program. Jen is a member of the National Ski Patrol and Dr. Geeslin is a USSA Team Physician and has traveled internationally with the team to provide medical coverage of events.

Arthroscopy Association of North America, Advanced Knee Course, 2019

November 1-3, 2019. Orthopaedic Learning Center, Rosemont, IL.

AANA, under the direction of Drs. Sgaglione, Bonner, and LaPrade, hosted the 2019 Advanced Knee Course. This was a 3 day event with an international faculty and attendee list focused on treatment of complex knee injuries. Dr. Geeslin served as faculty, instructing in the lab as well as delivering a lecture on ACL reconstruction with lateral extra-articular augmentation.

Minnesota Anatomic Complex International Knee Symposium

September 11-14, 2019. Minneapolis, MN.

Dr. Geeslin served as faculty in the renowned MACKS 2019 course. This is regarded as the premier international complex knee course and is chaired by Dr. Robert LaPrade and Dr. Lars Engebretsen. Dr. Geeslin lectured on the knee exam and medial patellar instability and performed a surgical demonstration with Dr. Alan Getgood (London, ON) on lateral extra-articular reconstruction for complex knee injuries.

Annual Meeting

Dr. Geeslin served as faculty with Dr. Kevin Shea and WOA President Dr. Omer Ilahi at the Sports Medicine Symposium. The focus of the symposium was anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and Dr. Geeslin presented on the Anatomy and Biomechanics of the Anterolateral Complex of the Knee, and discussed a potential evolving for reconstruction in select patients to minimize ACL re-injury.

2019 American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine

July 11-14, 2019. Boston, MA.

At the annual AOSSM meeting held in Boston, MA, surgeons from across the country and around the world gathered to present research and learn about updated treatment options for various sports injuries. Dr. Geeslin served as a moderator with Dr. Kurt Spindler (Cleveland Clinic) for a session entitled “Outcome Scores in 2019” in which participants discussed methods to assess a patients function and treatment satisfaction. Additionally, partnering with Dr. Bruce Levy (Mayo Clinic), Dr. Geeslin moderated a session entitled “All the Ligaments in One Place: Spotlight on the ACL, PCL, PLC, and MCL.”

AOSSM/ISAKOS Osteotomy Surgical Skills Course

Osteotomies around the knee can be used to address malalignment, osteoarthritis, and ligament insufficiency. Dr. LaPrade along with Dr. Arendt and Dr. Getgood served as course directors and Dr. Geeslin was an invited lab faculty member and discussion leader.

Cartilage/Meniscus Expert Consensus Meeting

September 27-28, 2018. Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany.

Sponsored by Össur, international surgeons and researchers gathered for a cartilage/meniscus consensus group meeting in order to develop guidelines on rehabilitation protocols. Speakers included Dr. Mats Brittberg, Dr. Adam Anz, Dr. Alan Getgood, Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, Dr. Robert LaPrade, and Dr. Scott Faucet. Consensus guidelines developed at the meeting will be made available to surgeons and therapists worldwide.

Vail Int'l Complex Knee Symposium (VICKS)

June 14-16, 2018

The fifth annual VICKS was held in Vail, CO, and chaired by Dr. Robert LaPrade and Dr. Lars Engebretsen. This event serves as the premier course for education international attendees on the latest techniques for treatment of complex knee injuries. Dr. Geeslin served as faculty at this meeting and instructed attendees on topics including the Anterolateral Complex of the Knee (a cutting-edge topic), Physical Examination for Multi-Ligament Injuries, Lateral Patellotibial Ligament Reconstruction, and led a case discussion on several complex knee injury patterns.

AANA 2018, Orthobiologics

Dr. Geeslin presented research and a surgical technique for Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate augmentation of complex and revision knee procedures. This procedure utilizes a patient's own cells to aid healing by concentration and injection into the site of injury/surgery.

Anterolateral Complex of the Knee Consensus Group Meeting

October 24-25, 2017. London, England.

A consensus group meeting was held in London with representatives from 5 continents to present research and establish consensus on the Anterolateral Complex of the Knee. This anatomic region may be injured in patients with ACL tears and surgical reconstruction of the Anterolateral Complex combined with the ACL may lead to improve results in these patients. Dr. Geeslin presented findings from his published research on this topic including anatomy, properties of native structures, and the biomechanical influence of reconstruction.

Award-winning research at AOSSM 2017 meeting

July 20-22, 2017. Toronto, ON.

Working with a team led by Dr. LaPrade, Dr. Geeslin and colleagues presented clinical outcomes research at the AOSSM 2017 annual meeting in Toronto, Ontario. Their research, titled "Two-Tunnel Transtibial Repair of Radial Meniscus Tears Produces Comparable Results to Inside-Out Repair of Vertical Meniscus Tears" was selected as one of the top three poster presentations at the meeting. These are encouraging findings for patients with complex meniscus tears, and further supports meniscal repair whenever possible.
